Black-Eye Peas (Cowpea)

Size

The black-eyed pea, black-eyed bean, or goat pea, is a subspecies of the cowpea legume, grown around the world for its medium-sized, edible bean.

They are used in various regions around the world in their local cuisines from Europe to the Middle East and South-East Asia. They can be cooked into a stew or even just added to salads.

Black-eyed peas are moderately low in calories. A half-cup serving of canned beans has just 70 calories, or less than 5 percent of your daily calorie limit if you eat 2,000 calories a day. One of the most significant benefits of black-eyed peas is their fiber content. A half-cup of beans nets you 4 grams of dietary fiber, which fulfills between 10 and 15 percent of your daily fiber needs. They are a fantastic source of iron. Each serving supplies about 1.4 milligrams, which is approximately 18 percent of your daily iron needs.
